LWV Texas proudly celebrates Black History Month, recognizing the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black leaders and communities throughout history. This month is a time to honor the past while continuing to advocate for equity, inclusion, and the protection of voting rights for all.
As we navigate through a whirlwind of activity at both the state and national level, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering commitment to defending democracy. In these times of rapid change and uncertainty, it's natural to feel overwhelmed. However, I urge you to remain hopeful, engaged, and motivated. Every phone call you make, every letter you write, and every conversation you have is vital in the preservation and advancement of our democratic ideals.
The 89th Texas Legislative Session is in full swing, and we're closely monitoring several concerning bills related to voting rights and public education, particularly SB 2, which aims to establish Educational Savings Accounts in Texas. We're asking you to call your senators today and urge them to oppose SB 2!
Our Making Democracy Work® Dinner is coming up on Monday, February 24th at the Austin Public Library. We're thrilled to welcome Texas Secretary of State, Jane Nelson as our distinguished keynote speaker. It promises to be an inspiring evening, and we'd love to see you there!
For our members, LWVTX Lobby Days is coming up Feb. 24th-25th in Austin. If you haven't already joined us, we welcome you to become a member and be part of our impactful work.
Remember, the road to progress is rarely smooth, but with your passion and perseverance, we will continue to be a powerful force for positive change. Your dedication inspires me every day, and I'm honored to stand alongside you in this crucial work.
With gratitude,
