POSITIVE MOVEMENT ON SB 798
SUPPORT: SB 798, authored by Sen. Nelson and co-authored by Sen. Zaffirini, has made it out of committee. This bill creates a no-cost process for obtaining state-issued ID or certified copy of a birth certificate for victims of domestic violence or a child of a victim of dating or family violence. Identification is crucial for survivors of domestic violence to start their new lives outside of shelters. Survivors are often handicaped by limited financial resources and this bill is one step in helping them achieve independence.
