As a constituent, you can have influence and power by sharing your experiences and opinions with your legislators.You must take action on SB 7 NOW -- it is being heard in the Senate State Affairs Committee today!Read Voting Rights & Elections Laws Issue Chair Cinde Weatherby's blog for the details.

Due to the pandemic, the League has limited access to your elected officials at the Texas Capitol. We are figuring out how to work around the following restrictions:
  • The Senate allows only in-person oral testimony and written testimony must be hand-delivered to the committee!
  • The House allows oral in-person testimony; written testimony can be hand-delivered OR sent through the House portal from a computer.
  • The comments portal MIGHT be read by committee members and is NOT part of the official record!
  • Some committees suggest emailing testimony to the committee members also, but each committee has different procedures.

A few Issue Chairs and League advocates who live in Austin are venturing to the Capitol to provide written and oral testimony.Thank you,Susana Carranza!Susana is an LWV Austin Area advocate.

Voting Rights
Our main concern is bill SB 7. Last week League members and supporters sent over 800 letters to their legislators.PleaseTake Action onSB 7today!We are mobilizing across Texas to speak out against this bill that will limit voting rights for all Texans and will impact the elderly, the disabled, and communities of color the most.

Gun Safety
IssueChair Aimee Mobley Turney(LWV Houston Area) has written testimony supporting several bills such as HB 52 on background checks, but opposing an important bill, HB 530, that would let election judges carry guns! Condemn Racism Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
The League of Women Voters mourns the lives of the eight individuals who were murdered in Georgia last week. We lift up the lives of the six Asian American women who died in this horrific killing spree. We stand with the countless other Asian American and Pacific Islanders that have lost their lives or been harmed, mentally or physically, as a result of anti-Asian xenophobia and racism in Texas and the US.

Share your support for Texas House Representative Gene Wu (HD137) of Houston's billHCR 66,a bill that condemns racism against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). Use theLeague Action Centerto write a message to your legislators and/or a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper.
