What We Are Facing…

Here are a few of the disheartening headlines you may have seen recently:
“New Texas elections law, decried as voter suppression, leads to record number of rejected mail ballot applications”
Houston Chronicle, Jan 15, 2022
“Texas says supply chain issues have limited the number of voter registration forms it can give out”
KUT 90.5, Jan 19, 2022
One of the League’s favorite and most important endeavors is to register Texas voters. We have worked for years with state and local officials to register voters in high schools, colleges, on the street, and at naturalization ceremonies. We were recently told by the office of the Texas Secretary of State that the League needed to raise our own funds so that we have enough Texas state voter registration forms to register voters at naturalization ceremonies.
Can you believe it? One of the most sacred events in our democracy….when those who have worked so hard for so long to obtain their deserved citizenship! And, our Texas government can’t or won’t provide them the basics they need to register to vote?
With your help, the League of Women Voters of Texas will get them and other Texans registered, and we are asking you to make a generous donation to cover the cost of printing voter registration packages that our government won’t provide for these naturalized citizens, high school and college students and the many other citizens we register.
Help cover the cost of registering voters in Texas! Please donate now. Registering new voters is the cornerstone of how democracy works!
Thank you so much for your support of the League of Women Voters of Texas. Together we are empowering voters and defending democracy in Texas.
